19/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – The conclusions prepared by the French Presidency of the Council of the EU (FPEU) on ‘Copernicus Horizon 2035’ are now on track for approval by the EU Ambassadors on 10 June. Member States maintain the main principles of the European flagship earth observation programme: Copernicus should remain a civilian programme that focuses on climate objectives by providing open data. They also call for the continuity and development of the next generation of Sentinel satellites. They urge the European Commission to analyse possible additional funding to support the infrastructure. The programme is experiencing funding difficulties with the UK’s withdrawal from the EU (see EUROPE 12885/19). In addition, one of the Copernicus satellites suffered a severe failure at the end of 2021 (see EUROPE 12914/14). To read the conclusions (in French): https://aeur.eu/f/1pr (PH)
