18/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 18 May, the European Commission said in a statement that it had made €248 million available to the five Member States that were most affected at the start of the war in Ukraine and have taken in large numbers of refugees, to support their reception and border management systems. This decision follows the ‘Stand Up for Ukraine’ global pledge event on 9 April, where the Commission pledged up to €400 million to help refugees from Ukraine in the most affected Member States. This emergency aid from home affairs funds will go to Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Member States can use these funds to provide immediate assistance (food, transport and temporary accommodation) to refugees. (SP)
