Member States’ ambassadors to the EU have reiterated their support for Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič in his efforts to warn the UK of consequences should it unravel the Northern Ireland Protocol. Member states wanted a channel of discussion to be maintained to find a solution with London, but the protocol cannot be renegotiated, they repeated, according to one source. They also renewed their desire for a positive and stable relationship with the UK, but “unilateral actions are not acceptable”, as the Vice-President had pointed out on 17 May. On the same day, the UK government confirmed its intention to legislate on the protocol in the near future. (SP)
