03/05/22 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament gave favourable opinions on Tuesday 3 May on the Council of the European Union’s proposals to appoint Maltese George Marius Hyzler and Cypriot Lefteris Christoforou as members of the EU Court of Auditors. Mr Hyzler’s candidature was supported with 551 votes in favour, 33 against and 45 abstentions, and Mr Christoforou’s with 549 votes in favour, 11 against and 69 abstentions. The six-year terms of office of the current Maltese and Cypriot members of the EU Court of Auditors will expire on 30 September and 1 November 2022 respectively. The final decision on these appointments will be taken by the EU Council. (LC)
