European Parliament expects plenary vote on semiconductors in early 2023

The European Parliament’s timetables setting dates for negotiations on the semiconductor regulation, for which Dan Nica (S&D, Romania) is rapporteur, and the regulation on semiconductor joint undertakings, which is the subject of Eva Maydell’s (EPP, Bulgaria) report, are becoming clearer.

The timetable is the same for both texts. The first milestone will be the publication of the European Commission’s working document on semiconductors, which is particularly eagerly awaited by the EU Council (see EUROPE 12929/28). It is expected to be presented on Friday 6 May.

During June, MEPs will be invited to visit IMEC, a semiconductor innovation centre in Leuven. On 13 and/or 14 June, a session will be devoted to the issue of semiconductors in the Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE).

Exactly one month later, on 13 and/or 14 July, the two rapporteurs will present their draft versions to ITRE MEPs. The deadline for amendments is 5 September. The vote in the ITRE Committee is scheduled for 5 December, which will probably lead to a vote in the plenary session in January 2023.
