26/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – MEPs on the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA) unanimously approved (42 votes) the report by Christophe Hansen (EPP, Luxembourg) on the draft regulation on foreign subsidies that distort competition. Earlier, they had approved a series of compromise amendments formulating their modifications to the Commission’s proposal (see EUROPE 12938/15). “It is about time we plugged the longstanding regulatory gap between the rigorous state aid control that European companies in the Single Market are subject to, and foreign companies that can compete in it while receiving distortive subsidies from foreign governments”, said Hansen. The plenary vote on the text is expected to take place in May. (LM)
