EU extends list of persons and entities sanctioned for Pyongyang’s illegal weapons programmes

The Council of the EU added, on Friday 22 April, eight individuals and four entities to the list of sanctions it had already imposed on North Korea. The new list includes persons involved in the development of the missile programme as well as individuals engaged in sanctions circumvention activities in order to generate funds for the weapons programmes.

The EU intends to prevent the flow of components, finance and knowledge that could be used for the development of ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons in North Korea.

Sanctioned persons and entities are banned from entering the EU and have their assets frozen. The sanctions also include a ban on making funds or economic resources available to the persons concerned.

This brings the number of individuals autonomously sanctioned by the EU to 65 and the entities to 13 (see EUROPE 12539/23).
