EU calls on Afghan authorities to ensure safety of citizens after new attacks in country

22/04/2022 (Agence Europe)We stand with those who have been injured and the families of those who have been killed”, said European External Action Service (EEAS) spokesperson Peter Stano on Friday 22 April, in the wake of a series of explosions targeting the Shia community and the Hazara ethnic group in Afghanistan on 21 April. These dramatic events risk generating more violence and instability within a country “that has already suffered enough”, according to Peter Stano. He called on the country’s authorities “to ensure the safety of Afghan citizens, to provide full information on the circumstances and investigations into these attacks, and to hold the perpetrators accountable”. The ‘Islamic State’ group has claimed responsibility for an attack on a Shia mosque that has killed at least 12 people. (LM)
