Negotiators from the European Parliament and the Council of the EU were continuing the interinstitutional (‘trilogue’) negotiations they started in the morning to try to reach an interinstitutional agreement on the Digital Services Act (DSA) (see EUROPE 12935/8) on Friday 22 April as this edition went to press.
Several points remained on the table. These include the issues of targeted advertising and ‘dark patterns’, which induce users to accept data collection or stay on a service for longer.
Earlier in the day, the European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton announced on Twitter that this trilogue could well be decisive.
From Parliament, Christel Schaldemose (S&D, Denmark), the rapporteur for this legislation, told members of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) on 20 April that she expected a “positive outcome” from the trilogue, but remained cautious.
According to the few reports from the negotiation room, a potential agreement could be reached on Friday evening or Saturday morning. EUROPE will continue to follow this story. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
