08/04/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 8 April, the European Commission approved changes to an existing Czech scheme to support the growth of climate-resilient forests. The system was approved on 27 November 2019. The Czech Republic notified the following changes: extension from 31 December 2025 to 31 December 2027; introduction of two new measures to facilitate forest regeneration; increased budget to €1.5 billion for the period 2021–2027. Around €335 million of additional funds will be made available through the Czech Republic’s recovery plan, which has been approved by the EU. The aim of this aid is to encourage forest owners or tenants to move ahead with forest regeneration. The support will take the form of direct grants. (LC)
