31/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 30 March, the European Commission and partner organisations launched an initiative to develop a digital Earth model to monitor, model and predict natural and human activities and to develop and test scenarios for more sustainable development. Entitled “Destination Earth”, the initiative has an initial grant of €150 million under the ‘Digital Europe Programme’ until mid-2024. “For example, the digital modelling of the Earth will help to predict major environmental degradation with unprecedented reliability”, said Margrethe Vestager, executive vice-president of the European Commission for a Europe fit for the Digital Age.
