Brussels, 31/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) published on 30 March an opinion in favour of a sharp reduction in Canada’s anti-subsidy duties on EU sugar, announces the European Association of Sugar Manufacturers (CEFS). The notice reduces the anti-subsidy duty by more than 80%, from €24.39/100 kg to €3.97/100 kg, and withdraws the anti-subsidy duties for Cosun Beet Company. For CEFS Director General Marie-Christine Ribera, the conclusion of this new survey “vindicates what we have been saying for years: that EU sugar is substantially unsubsidised, in contrast to other major producers and exporters such as India and Thailand”. Cosun Beet Company will gain access to the Canadian sugar market on the same terms as the EU market, CEFS also notes. (LC)
