11/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 11 March EU High Representative Josep Borrell announced a pause in the Iranian nuclear negotiations due to Russian demands related to sanctions imposed in retaliation for the war in Ukraine. “A pause in the Vienna talks is needed due to external factors”, Borrell said in a tweet, adding that “a final text is essentially ready and on the table”. Moscow would like the new agreement to be accompanied by US guarantees that the sanctions imposed on Russia will not apply to Russian trade or investment with Iran. “As coordinator, I will, with my team, continue to be in contact with all Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) participants and the United States to overcome the current situation and to close the agreement”, Borrell promised.
