10/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament's political groups was unable to come to a decision on Wednesday 9 March whether the European Parliament should participate in an OSCE mission to observe the parliamentary elections in Slovenia in April and have therefore decided to discuss the matter again at its next meeting. The request to ask for European Parliament participation in such an electoral mission has been made by Renew Europe, but there seems to be little enthusiasm for this, with one Parliament source seeing “no majority“ in support of this request. This would be a first for the European Parliament and the consequences of this move need to be carefully assessed, commented the Parliament’s President Roberta Metsola. The political groups have expressed reservations, another source said, and asked for more time. The S&D and The Left groups, however, said they were in support of the idea. (SP)
