10/03/2022 (Agence Europe) – “The EU condemns in the strongest possible terms the shelling of the Mariupol maternity hospital by the Russian armed forces”, declared the High Representative Josep Borrell and European Commissioner Janez Lenarčič, on Thursday 10 March. In a joint statement, they said they were “horrified to see the Russian armed forces committing increasing atrocities”. The same condemnation for “the ongoing siege of the city of Mariupol and other Ukrainian cities under heavy bombardment by the Russian Armed Forces, causing horrors to the civilian population and creating humanitarian disasters”. They call for an immediate end to these violations of international humanitarian law. The EU welcomes the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry in the UN Human Rights Council and the opening of an investigation by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
