27/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 27 January, the European Commission opened a consultation period on the methods for calculating and collecting fines for infringements of the type-approval rules for motor vehicles in the European Union. In its draft act, the Commission intends to review the procedures for notifying fines to the targeted economic operators and the Member States, as well as the deadlines for communicating missing information. In addition, the Commission also wishes to review the methods for calculating administrative fines, which could include taking into account certain aggravating factors. The methods of recovery of these fines should also be reviewed, with a time limit currently set at 3 months. This consultation will remain open until 24 February 2022.
