27/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – During a debate held by the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs on Wednesday 26 January, the French Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, outlined the timetable for initiatives and reforms that could be launched on the basis of the recommendations of the Conference on the Future of Europe. He said that the three conference co-chairs would present a “political line“ on Monday 9 May, the June European Council would provide “a first set of guidelines”, the European Parliament could take a position in a plenary in July, and the European Commission would make announcements and/or present initiatives at the State of the Union speech in September. The demands of citizens must be met quickly, “otherwise we will create disappointment”, Beaune stressed, while pointing out that a revision of the treaties should be neither a totem nor a taboo. (MB)
