11/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission said on Tuesday 11 January that it had received Poland’s reply to its letter sent on 22 December on the implementation of the EU Court of Justice’s orders on the disciplinary chamber of the Supreme Court (see EUROPE 12865/23). Warsaw had until 10 January to respond or face an immediate order to pay the fines imposed by the Court of Justice in October. The Commission will analyse this response and will send this payment request “promptly” in the absence of satisfactory elements. “We don’t want to speculate on the next steps. For the moment, the Member States have paid the fines”, added spokesman Christian Wigand. The Court of Justice imposed a daily fine of €1 million on Poland, to be paid until the Disciplinary Chamber complies. (SP)
