MEP Helmut Geuking suggests giving €50 per birth in EU

German MEP Helmut Geuking (EPP) wants to strengthen EU action in the field of family policy to boost the birth rate in Europe, in his own-initiative report on the employment and social aspects of the annual sustainable growth strategy of the European budgetary process ‘European Semester’, published on Thursday 6 January on the European Parliament website.

He is therefore suggesting that €50 per birth in the EU be distributed to parents whose income is below the national median. This sum would be divided in two. €25 would be given per child as a direct payment from existing family funds in the Member States. The remaining €25 per child would go towards the creation of newly established European family advisors who will actively work with families at local level.

This ‘25/25’ system would complement the Child Guarantee (see EUROPE 12740/17), he said.

By making the European Union more family-friendly, more children will be born in Europe again. Strengthening families means strengthening society as a whole”, explains the MEP from the German Family Party (‘Familien-Partei Deutschlands’).

Furthermore, in his explanatory statement, the MEP recalls his strict opposition to any plans for debt mutualisation and a eurozone budget with higher membership contributions. In general, the rapporteur expresses his concerns about the general indebtedness of Member States to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fighting the global ‘Great Reset’ project. Furthermore, the MEP says in his explanatory statement that his report underpins a rejection of the World Economic Forum's initiative, known as the ‘Great Reset’. The reason? This project aims to reshape the global economy and society in the wake of the pandemic.
