10/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – Atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) continue to rise, according to the latest data from Europe’s Copernicus Earth observation programme released on Monday 10 January. The annual increase in atmospheric concentration has been about 0.6%/year since 2010 for CO2 and about 0.4%/year since 2010 for CH4. The temperature is also rising: the last seven years have been the warmest on record. Over the past 45 years, temperatures over land have risen about twice as fast as those over the oceans. In 2021, a record temperature was recorded in the EU, with a peak of 48.8°C measured in Sicily in August. “These findings confirm once again that urgent climate action is needed”, commented the European Commission.
