29/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – With one week to go before the opening of the inter-institutional negotiations on the European Year of Youth 2022 (see EUROPE 12834/15), the issue of the budget “is still not decided” by the EU Council, French Secretary of State for Youth, Sarah El Haïry, told EUROPE while in Brussels on Monday 29 November. The European Commission has proposed €8 million from the Erasmus+ budget and the European Solidarity Corps (see EUROPE 12812/1). However, the European Parliament is opposed to this (see EUROPE 12819/18): it is requesting €10 million and a dedicated budget line. The EU Council has asked the Commission to clarify which other programmes could be applied to, and is expected to adopt its negotiating position on the basis of this information. According to an EU source, the Commission was to come back to the EU27 on Monday. (AC)
