29/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – Leaders from the European Union and ten Latin American and Caribbean countries will exchange views at a mini-summit on Thursday 2 December. The format chosen allows for the gathering of Latin American and Caribbean countries holding the presidency of regional organisations in 2021, including Argentina and Brazil for Mercosur, Mexico for CELAC, Ecuador for the Andean Community, Colombia and the Pacific Alliance, Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua and Barbuda for CARICOM. It circumvents the fact that Brazil has withdrawn from the CELAC organisation, the usual venue for bi-regional summits. Among the topics discussed will be the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the fight against inequalities, and the environmental and digital transitions. The last EU/CELAC summit took place in June 2015 in Brussels (see EUROPE 11333/1). More info: https://bit.ly/2Zy66Aq (MB)
