29/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – The EU Court of Auditors and its president, Klaus-Heiner Lehne, will answer questions from the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control on Tuesday 30 November, following allegations of abuse and mismanagement made by the newspaper Libération. Caterina Chinnici (S&D, Italy) announced this on Monday 29 November, at the start of the European Parliament Committee on Budgetary Control meeting, saying that it was Mr Lehne who had made the request after the article in question appeared. In its investigation, Libération accuses members or collaborators of the institution, including its president, Mr Lehne, of being falsely domiciled in Luxembourg when they do not live there. Absenteeism affects at least “one third of the members” of the Court of Auditors, the newspaper says, which also points to “abuse of expense accounts” and “unverified missions”. (LC)
