Bee-killing neonicotinoids—EFSA decides emergency authorisations granted by 11 EU countries were justified

On Thursday, 18 November, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) gave its blessing to the 17 emergency authorisations that 11 Member States had granted bee-killing neonicotinoid pesticides (clothianidin, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam, and thiacloprid) in 2020 and 2021 in order to protect sugar beets.

The matter being assessed was the justification for emergency authorisations from Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Spain...
