On Thursday 18 November the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets approved two draft amending budgets on humanitarian support for refugees in Turkey and the provision of Covid-19 vaccines.
MEPs adopted (29 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions) two reports by Pierre Larrouturou (S&D, France) on draft amending budgets 5/2021 and 6/2021. Both reports were adopted with 29 votes in favour, no votes against and no abstentions.
Amending Budget 5/2021 aims to provide increased humanitarian support to the most vulnerable of the 3.7 million Syrian refugees in Turkey who have fled the conflict. An additional €149.6 million has been allocated to finance emergency humanitarian aid for refugees in Turkey.
Draft amending budget 6/2021 has a net expenditure impact of €473.5 million. €450 million has been added to the relevant budget line of the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument in order to donate 200 million doses of vaccine to low- and lower-middle income countries.
€57.8 million is also intended for the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (EUCPM/rescEU) to cover new emergencies (repatriation flights from Afghanistan, EU response in Haiti). (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
