09/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 8 November, the European Commission launched a call for input for the revision of the Air Services Regulation (EC 1008/2008). Through this procedure, the European Commission intends to follow up on the impact assessments carried out in 2019 and 2020, which identified a number of areas for improvement. In the wake of the health crisis, the European Commission wishes, among other things, to review the conditions for granting operating licences, particularly as regards the authorities’ monitoring of the financial capacity of airlines. The revision of the Air Services Regulation is also expected to clarify certain provisions on public service obligations and price transparency as well as the regulatory treatment of new types of services, such as those using drones.
