09/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – A public consultation launched on 8 November is open until 6 December, on a draft European Commission delegated regulation to set a limit value for hexachlorobenzene (HCB), a substance used in pesticides. HCB is a persistent organic pollutant (POP) classified as a possible carcinogen and associated with dermal and neurotoxic effects. The delegated regulation is scheduled for adoption by the end of the year. It aims to amend Regulation (EU) 2019/1021, which transposes the Stockholm Convention and pursues objectives to protect human health and the environment from POPs. Specifically, it will amend Annex I of Regulation (EU) 2019/1021, which currently does not set a limit value for the presence of hexachlorobenzene as an unintentional trace contaminant in substances, mixtures and products.
