On Thursday 23 September, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) published a report detailing developments in vaccination against Covid-19 in the EU and the European Economic Area (EEA).
It states that all countries in the EU/EEA now recommend the vaccination of adolescents aged 12-17, with the exception of Croatia and Sweden, which only call for the vaccination of at-risk 12-17 year olds.
Most countries also recommend or consider additional doses (see EUROPE 12782/22) for people with immunodeficiency.
Fourteen countries (Austria, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Portugal and Spain) recommend only one of two doses of vaccine for people who have previously contracted SARS-CoV-2.
Finally, in France, Greece, Hungary and Italy, vaccination is compulsory for health personnel and/or people working in long-term care facilities.
As of 24 September, 78.8% of adults had received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 72.6% had completed their vaccination cycle. Behind this average, however, are particularly low rates - notably in Bulgaria, where they are around 23%, and in Romania, where they are just over 33%.
