Stefano Turchetto to lead EU Irini operation from October 2021

Brussels, 24/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 23 September, the Council of the European Union appointed Italian Rear Admiral Stefano Turchetto as Commander of the EU military operation in the Mediterranean (EUNAVFOR MED Irini). He will succeed Italian Rear Admiral Fabio Agostini as of 1 October 2021. Mr Turchetto was EU Force Commander of EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia from September 2018 to June 2019 (see EUROPE B12273A30).
