24/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 24 September, some thirty French economists and MEPs called for the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2022 to be the starting point for transforming the Stability and Growth Pact into a “Resilience and Solidarity Pact”. The signatories, including Philippe Lamberts (Greens/EFA, Belgium) and Aurore Lalucq (S&D, France), want a European economic governance that: - safeguards the financing of the Just Transition (green investments, transition aid for households and companies, professional training for workers in sectors in transition) by excluding it from the calculation of the public deficit; - integrates economic reality (public assets, interest rates, private debt); - promotes democratic debate and legitimises fiscal rules by being based on readable and coherent economic, ecological and social objectives.
