13/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, announced on Monday 13 September that several recommendations from the working groups on the internal reform of the European Parliament would be applied “on a trial basis” during the next plenary sessions (see EUROPE 12786/18). He cited the introduction of a limited number of key prime time debates, a dedicated slot for foreign policy debates with the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, the use of ‘catch the eye’ and the blue card in discussions with the European Commission and the Council of the EU, and the possibility for MEPs to speak from the central podium during debates that concern them. The working groups’ recommendations will be studied by the Bureau of the European Parliament, which will meet on Friday 17 September in Bazoches, in the Jean Monnet House.
