13/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – “Nuclear energy must be included in the European Union's taxonomy by the end of this year”, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Friday 10 September in Slovenia, on the sidelines of the informal meeting of EU finance ministers. He argued that two expert reports - presumably the opinions of the national expert group established by the Euratom Treaty and the Scientific Committee on Health, Environmental and Emerging Risks (SCHEER) (see EUROPE 12764/12) - came to “the same conclusion”, namely that “nuclear energy is necessary to combat climate change”. The Commission is due to present a delegated act by the end of 2021, that will cover nuclear power and complement the first delegated act on EU taxonomy. (MB)
