13/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Christa Schweng, and the President of the EESC’s section for External Relations, Dimitris Dimitriadis, stressed, on Monday 13 September, that it was Europe’s “moral duty” to help the Afghan people. “Based on our values, Europeans should provide humanitarian aid, protect those committed to human rights and democracy and show solidarity with civil society organisations and local activists”, they said in a statement. The EU should deepen its ties with the US and other like-minded allies “on developing a clear roadmap and a common strategy on the future of Afghanistan”, they say. They also called for cooperation with neighbouring countries. (CG)
