The European Commission approved on Wednesday 8 September the registration of a European Citizens’ Initiative calling for the conformity of the EU’s trade policy with the Treaties and international law.
The initiative calls on the Commission to submit a legislative proposal within the framework of the common commercial policy to prevent European entities from importing goods from or exporting goods to occupied territories.
The organisers of the initiative now have one year to collect one million signatures from seven different member countries. If successful, the Commission will have to respond by either accepting or rejecting the initiative and explaining the reasons for its choice. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
