07/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 7 July, the board of directors of the Franco-Italian company Tunnel Euralpin Lyon Turin (TELT) gave the green light to the signing of contracts for the construction of the railway tunnel between Lyon and Turin on the French side. The approximately €3 billion investment for the project will be co-financed by the European Union, France and Italy. “Today’s decision is of major importance for the Lyon-Turin project, the Central Corridor of the Mediterranean network, and for the overall functioning of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) in Europe”, said the European Coordinator for the TEN-T Mediterranean Corridor, Iveta Radičová. The Lyon-Turin route, often described as the missing link in the Mediterranean Corridor, is expected to reduce the number of lorries on Alpine motorways by more than one million, in line with the environmental objectives of the European Green Deal.
