The Vice-President of the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovič, participated in the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the EBA250 Battery Academy in Paris on Tuesday 6 July.
It is a public-private partnership with links to apprenticeship and training services to cover the entire value chain of the battery sector. According to the European Commission, this protocol aims to train around 150,000 people in France by 2025.
This new step is aimed at tackling the labour shortage, even though estimates show that by 2025 there could be a shortfall of some 800,000 jobs across the battery value chain.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the EIT InnoEnergy, and the French Minister of Labour and Employment, Élisabeth Borne, and the Minister Delegate for Industry, Agnès Pannier-Runacher.
This is the second such protocol. EIT InnoEnergy is already implementing the EBA250 Academy in Spain, with the first MoU signed on 20 May 2021, and plans to roll out the programme across Europe in 2021 (see EUROPE 12670/20). (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
