02/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has launched a consultation on the review of the mandate of the European Maritime Safety Agency. This European agency, created in 2002, serves to ensure a high and uniform level of maritime safety and pollution prevention in EU waters. “Guidance and policies have evolved considerably since the Agency’s mandate was last reviewed in 2013. The mandate should therefore be revised again. This will aim in particular to align the Agency’s activities with the communication on a sustainable and smart mobility strategy adopted in December 2020”, says the Commission (see EUROPE 12619/12). Contributions on a new regulation revising the EU agency’s mandate - which the Commission hopes to unveil in the fourth quarter of 2022 - are open until 28 July 2021.
