02/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 2 July, the European Commission approved €39.7 million of an Italian aid measure to compensate Alitalia for the damages suffered on certain routes due to the Covid-19 outbreak during the period of 1 March to 30 April 2021. The aid will take the form of a direct grant (€39.7 million), which corresponds to the estimated amount of damage directly caused to the airline over this period. This follows the Commission decisions of 12 May 2021, 26 March 2021, 29 December 2020 and 4 September 2020 approving Italian measures in favour of Alitalia to compensate for the damage suffered by the airline from 1 to 31 January 2021, from 1 November to 31 December 2020, from 16 June to 31 October 2020 and from 1 March to 15 June 2020 respectively.
