09/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – An open letter, initiated by the She Decides movement and supported by the relevant Belgian, Swedish, Dutch, and French ministers, was published on Wednesday 9 June and aims to affirm the protection of the right to abortion. Many girls and women are denied full access to their sexual and reproductive rights around the world, including in the EU (see EUROPE 12715/19), the letter recalls, pointing out that attacks on these rights “are often spearheaded by well-funded, well-organised lobby groups”. The signatories therefore call for, among other things, a “global campaign of factual and unbiased information” on abortion, the reopening of abortion services closed during the pandemic as non-essential, and an end to policies such as mandatory counselling.
