09/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – Eurospace, which represents a range of major space industry players, said in a statement on Wednesday 9 June that it had asked the European Commission to clarify the scope of the Sustainable Products Initiative(SPI), which aims to revise the Ecodesign Directive. In particular, Eurospace wants to know from the institution whether the planned extension of the directive concerns equipment sent into space, as space products do not generate waste on earth or on EU territory, and are not consumer products. The organisation is also calling for a comprehensive study to ensure that the ‘Digital Product Passport’ will collect all of the information that is essential for operators.
