23/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The EU, through the spokesperson of the European External Action Service, welcomed on evening of Monday 22 March the announcement by Saudi Arabia on ways to “end the Yemeni crisis and reach a comprehensive political solution” in Yemen. “We see the announcement as a positive step in the process towards peace”, said the spokesperson in a statement. He encouraged all parties to engage immediately with the UN Special Envoy to ensure that a ceasefire is declared immediately and that an inclusive political process is rapidly launched under UN auspices. Among Riyadh’s proposals is a ceasefire, which was immediately rejected by the Houthi rebels. On 20 March, the EU condemned the previous day’s drone attack on an oil facility in Riyadh, claimed by Ansar Allah. (CG)
