23/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 March, responding to the most recent deadly attacks in the Tahoua region, in Western Niger, on 21 March, the EU condemned “the indiscriminate violence perpetrated by terrorist groups with no regard for borders”. In a statement issued on behalf of the EU-27, Josep Borrell, the EU’s chief diplomat, said: “The men and women of Niger have not been intimidated by the various attacks that have taken place in recent weeks. On the contrary, they have completed a historic democratic process that is a decisive step towards consolidating democracy in their country”. He added: “they can count on the European Union to continue to fight with them to bring security and stability to their country. By carrying out these attacks against defenceless civilians, the terrorists are strengthening our resolve to confront them”. (AN)
