Public country by country reporting on agenda of Competitiveness Council on 25 February

The proposal for ‘public country by country reporting’ or ‘CBC’, which would require companies to make public certain accounting data such as turnover, profits and taxes paid, will be discussed on the agenda of the Competitiveness Council on 25 February.

The reversal of Austria’s position (see EUROPE 12643/29) after the meeting of the Council’s national experts on 22 January (see EUROPE 12642/21) put an end to the blocking minority against the text and paved the way for the adoption of a position by the Council of the EU.

However, as the meeting is taking place by videoconference due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no formal vote can be held, explained a European source. It will therefore be a political debate on the follow-up to be given to this dossier. Transparency will also be the order of the day, as the debate will be public and broadcast online.

The text was last tabled at the Competitiveness Council (see EUROPE 12379/13) in November 2019. See the agenda of the meeting: https://bit.ly/3cVptYv (Original version in French by Marion Fontana)
