08/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – The spokesman for the European External Action Service, Peter Stano, announced on Monday 8 February that the fifth Brussels conference on Syria will be held by videoconference on 29 and 30 March. 15 March will mark the 10th anniversary of the Syrian uprising. The conflict is still going on and the region has not been spared by Covid-19. After a day of dialogue between civil society, refugee host countries, the EU and the United Nations on 29 March, the ministerial conference will be held on 30 March, according to a statement by the European External Action Service. At the last meeting on 29 and 30 June 2020, the EU and the international community pledged 6.9 billion euros in humanitarian aid to the Syrians and neighbouring countries and called for the unblocking of the Geneva talks in order to reach a political solution (see EUROPE 12517/1).
