Political agreement in EU Council on amendment of ‘Aarhus’ Regulation to improve NGOs access to justice

The Environment Ministers of the EU Member States reached a political agreement (‘general approach’) on Thursday 17 December on amending the Aarhus Regulation (1367/2006) to improve public access to justice in environmental matters and thereby bring it into line with the Aarhus Convention which it transposes (Case ACCC/C2008/32).

The agreed text considerably broadens the scope for NGOs to appeal against administrative acts of EU institutions and bodies that may affect the environment...
