European Parliament vetoes authorisation of five glyphosate-tolerant transgenic soybean and maize varieties

By a very large majority, the European Parliament on Thursday 17 December opposed the market authorisation or renewal of authorisation of five genetically modified plants and products containing these GMOs for food or feed. There were one soybean and four corn hybrids under review, all resistant to glyphosate.

MEPs invoked the protection of health and the environment and the undemocratic nature of the procedure (see EUROPE B12613A13).
