24/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 23 November, MEPs adopted the recasts of the Regulation on the electronic service of judicial and extrajudicial documents in civil and commercial matters and the Regulation on the digitalisation of cooperation between the courts of the Member States in the taking of evidence (see EUROPE 12595/29). As a reminder, the agreement reached between the representatives of the Council of the EU and the European Parliament at the end of June 2020 maintains the flagship element of the Commission’s proposal, namely to enable courts to exchange information electronically and across borders through a decentralised IT system which will be composed of national IT systems interconnected by national access points (see EUROPE 12517/14). This was the last step before the two regulations could come into force. (MF)
