24/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 24 November, the European Commission welcomed Japan’s decision to join the ‘International Platform on Sustainable Finance’ at the EU-Japan Forum on Financial Regulation. Japan will also be responsible for co-chairing, together with Switzerland and the EU, the new working group on sustainability-related disclosure. The purpose of the International Platform on Sustainable Finance, which was launched by the EU, Argentina, Canada, Chile, China, India, Kenya, and Morocco in October 2019, is to strengthen international cooperation and find better ways to coordinate the approaches taken by the different countries involved, in order to increase the participation of private capital in ‘green’ investments (see EUROPE 12352/18). There are now 14 countries working with the EU on initiatives such as taxonomies, standards, labels and disclosures to help investors identify ‘green’ investments. (MF)
