Pierre Delsaux appointed new Deputy Director-General for Health

On Tuesday 24 November, the European Commission decided to transfer Pierre Delsaux (Belgium), the current Deputy Director-General in the Directorate General for Defence, Industry and Space (DEFIS) to a new position as Deputy Director-General for Health in the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (SANTE).

Delsaux has held a number of senior posts in the Commission, mainly in the Directorate-General for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (GROW) and the former Directorate-General for the Internal Market and Services (MARKT).

On Tuesday, the College of Commissioners also appointed five directors. Maria Pilar Aguar Fernandez (Spain) will become the new Director for Health and Food Audits and Analysis in DG SANTE.

Viveka Palm (Sweden) will take up the post of Director for Sectoral and Regional Statistics at Eurostat. Christine Wirtz (Germany) will become Director for Social Statistics.

In addition, two new directors have been appointed within DG DEFIS: François Arbault (France, Director for the Defence Industry) and Ekaterini Kavvada (Greece, Director for Development and Innovation). (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
