16/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 13 November, the European Commission launched public consultations on revisions to four key EU climate laws: (1) Directive (2003/87) establishing the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS); (2) Regulation (2018/841) on land use, land use change, and forestry (LULUCF); (3) Regulation (2018/842) on allocation effort; and (4) Regulation (2019/631) setting CO2 emission performance standards for new cars and vans. Scheduled for June 2021, these four revision proposals will help “achieve the European Green Deal and the proposed new EU target of at least a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030”, said the Commission. On 29 October, the institution published the roadmaps for these initiatives (see EUROPE 12592/17). The public consultations are open until 5 February. (DG)
